From the Journal of the House of Commons

Address to the King.

Mr. Pym reports, That the Earl of Northumberland reported, That the Committee for the Defence of the Kingdom, had considered of the present State of the Kingdom; and had considered of some humble Address to be made to his Majesty, for the Sparing of the Effusion of more Blood: But they would do nothing, until they had first acquainted the Lord General, and the Members of both Houses in the Army. That they had received a Letter from the Earl of Essex: The which was read: And that the Lords thought it fit to refer it to the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom, to prepare an humble Address to his Majesty for an Accommodation, if this House shall so think fit.

Resolved, upon the Question, That it be referred to the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom, to prepare Heads of an humble Address to be made unto his Majesty, for composing the Differences and Distractions of the Kingdom; and settling the Peace of the Kingdom; and to present them to the House.

Preparation of Forces.

Whereas we the Lords and Commons have ordered &c. [a]: To prevent all Misconstructions or Neglects, whereby our just Defence may be hindered; we do Declare, That the Preparation of Forces, and all other necessary Means, for the Defence of the Protestant Re. ligion, the Privileges of Parliament, the Laws and Liberties of the Subject, shall be prosecuted with all Vigour.

This Declaration to be forthwith printed.

Proposition for Peace, &

Mr. Pym went up to the Lords, to acquaint the Lords, that this House doth agree with them to the Proposition made at the last Conference, concerning Peace: And to desire them to join with this House in this Declaration.
